Keith Bradshaw Carrie Donahue Bremner

Keith Bradshaw BSc. (Arch); PLDA
Associate Director

Keith Bradshaw developed his interest in lighting design through his training in art and architecture at Bourneville College of Art and the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London.

He has over 10 years experience as a lighting designer having previously worked for KSLD where he worked on projects such as National Parks Gateway Building in Loch Lomond, PIFSS- Kuwait and ThinkTank Science Museum Masterplan Birmingham.

Keith joined Speirs and Major Associates in 2002 and is an Associate Director.  During his time at Speirs and Major Associates he has worked on a wide range of projects including museums, historical restorations, retail, theatres, leisure, external and corporate lighting.  Selected projects that he has worked on include Newcastle City Centre Lighting Strategy, the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque of Abu Dhabi, Armani Store Ginza Tokyo, Forth Road Toll Bridge Canopy, Index Tower in Dubai, the Royal Victoria Hospital 2b Belfast and the Copenhagen Opera House, which won the award of merit at the IIDA awards in 2007.

He has written articles for both the national and international press and has been involved in a number of international workshops and conferences.

Keith lives in Edinburgh and is married with two children. 

Carrie Donahue Bremner BArch; BFA
Design Associate

Carrie Donahue Bremner has had over 10 years experience in lighting design since graduating from The Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, Rhode Island, USA.

Carrie was previously employed with RMJM Scotland Ltd. where she worked on projects such as; West Cumbria College, West Lothian College, the Scottish United Services Museum Edinburgh Castle and Inverness Airport.

In 1998 Carrie joined Speirs and Major Associates to expand her architectural understanding of light. During this time she has worked on a diverse range of projects including the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, Manchester Sportcity Wall, Robin House Children’s Hospice Balloch, Dresden Hauptbahnhof Germany and the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque in Abu Dhabi. She has worked on several projects which have been honoured with international lighting design awards.

Carrie is married with one child and lives in Edinburgh.

Claudia Clements Andrew Howis

Claudia Clements BA (Hons); Dip.Arch; MSc Light & Lighting
Design Associate

Claudia trained as an architect and has over seven years experience of practice as an independent lighting designer.

After training at Kingston University she joined Equation Lighting Design where she worked on a number of major projects concerned with both exterior and interior lighting. Projects included Upper Ground Urban Regeneration, Harvey Nichols, Oxo Restaurant and the new audience reception for the BBC Stage 6 – all in London.

She joined Speirs and Major in 1998 and has worked on projects such as Bluewater: Europe’s largest retail development, Millennium Dome; an exposition in Greenwich, HM Treasury; a new government headquarters in London and Magna; the Stirling Prize winning Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham. She has compiled articles for national and international professional magazines and lectured at the University of Brighton. Claudia is an Associate of the International Association Lighting Designers. Claudia became a Design Associate in 2002.

Andrew Howis BSc (Hons)
Design Associate

Andrew Howis graduated from the University of Edinburgh having had an educational background in biological sciences with a keen interest in lighting from an early age. Andrew has a particular interest in the psychological and physiological effects of lighting.

He began his career in theatrical lighting, progressing on to architectural lighting. Working for four years at Elektra Lighting Design, Andrew worked on project such as; Chelsea Harbour Design Centre refurbishment, the Greenhouse Restaurant in Mayfair and McDonalds flagship Restaurant, which was awarded the ‘Retail, Restaurant and Hotels’ award at the Lighting Design Awards in 2004.

Andrew joined Speirs and Major Associates as a Senior Lighting Designer and became a Design Associate in April 2007.

Whilst working at Speirs and Major Associates Andrew has worked on a variety of projects including; The Skylon Restaurant at the Royal Festival Hall, Russia Towers in Moscow, One New Change, St Botolphs and Watermark Place in London.

Orri Petursson Ian Ruxton

Orri Petursson BA (Hons); MSc Light and Lighting
Design Associate

Orri Petursson trained at both Central School of Speech and Drama and the Bartlett School of Architecture after developing an interest in lighting through his early education and leisure activities.

He began his career in theatrical lighting, progressing on to architectural lighting during his employment with Hoare Lea Lighting. It was here that Orri was awarded the Lighting Design Award in 2003 for his work at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in London.

Orri joined Speirs and Major Associates in 2005 as a Senior Lighting Designer and became a Design Associate in April 2007.

Orri has worked on a variety of projects at Speirs and Major Associates including: The O2 Arena Entrance Area and Peninsula Square in Greenwich, Old Market Square in Nottingham and Moscow City Tower. He also worked on St Paul’s Cathedral, which was awarded the Heritage Award at the Lighting Design Awards and Award of Excellence at the IIDA Awards in 2007.

Orri has given lectures at a number of conferences on subjects including the LEDs and has been a visiting teacher at Central St Martins.

He is a keen golfer and enjoys participating in several tournaments throughout the year.

Iain Ruxton MA (Hons); PLDA
Design Associate

Iain studied at the University of Glasgow and, whilst working as a graphic designer, became interested in lighting design for its mix of both creative and technical skills

Iain has over 11 years of experience as a lighting designer joining Jonathan Speirs and Associates in 1996. During these years he has worked on a large variety of projects including: Burj Al Arab and Jumeriah Beach in Dubai, HBOS Headquarters in Edinburgh, The Lighthouse in Glasgow and Pulrose Power Station on the Isle of Man.

Several of the projects that Iain has worked on have been selected for awards including: IIDA awards in 2000 for the Burj Al Arab and the Lighthouse in Glasgow, an IALD award in 2005 for Pulrose Power Station and an IIDA award in 2007 for HBOS Headquarters in Edinburgh.

He has lectured at numerous events speaking on items ranging from LED’s in architectural lighting to Energy Efficiency Issues. He has also had articles published in both the national and international press.

Iain is a keen photographer, lives in Edinburgh and is married with one child.
